Saigon is hot and wet for most of the year, and a closed room without air conditioning holds that air against your things for months. Our air-conditioned sections are kept at 23 to 25°C. This page says what that protects, what it does not need to protect, and what it costs, so you pay for it only when it earns its keep.

The short answer

Air-conditioned sections are held at 23 to 25°C, in the same facilities and with the same crew, catalogue and security as standard sections.
Needs it: real wood, leather, books and paper, clothes and bedding stored longer than a season, instruments, art, photographs, electronics, anything with a battery.
Does not need it: plastic, metal, glass, ceramics, tools, bikes, sealed kitchenware, garden and sports gear.
Cost: 1,452,000 / 2,516,000 / 4,490,000 VND a month for Small, Medium and Large valet, against 1,158,000 / 2,006,000 / 3,579,000 VND standard. About a quarter more.
Not cold storage. Nothing that needs a fridge or freezer can be stored.

What the climate does to things in storage

Ho Chi Minh City sits at around 27 to 35°C for most of the year, with relative humidity that spends the rainy season above 80% and rarely drops below 65% even in the dry months. Inside a closed, unventilated room those numbers are worse, because there is no air movement to carry moisture away. The damage is slow and it is specific.

Wood takes on moisture and swells, then shrinks when the weather turns; joints loosen, veneers lift, drawers stick. Solid teak and rosewood cope; MDF, plywood and lacquered pieces do not.
Leather grows a white or green bloom of mould within weeks in a damp room. It can be cleaned once; after a season the surface is marked for good.
Paper and books absorb moisture, pages wave and stick, and foxing spots appear. Photographs stick to their sleeves. Archives that must be kept for years are the clearest case for climate control.
Fabric and bedding pick up a musty smell that washing does not fully remove, and cotton and wool mildew where they touch a wall or the floor.
Electronics corrode at the contacts and boards; screens fog between layers. Lithium batteries age faster in heat.
Instruments detune, wooden bodies crack, felts and pads swell. A piano in an unconditioned room for six months is a repair bill.

Standard sections are dry, shelved and pest-controlled, and for the second list on this page they are entirely fine. The difference is in months, not days: a fortnight in a standard section harms nothing. Past a month, and for anything on the first list, the air-conditioned section is the safe default.

Splitting a home across both

Most whole-home plans go air-conditioned because the furniture decides it. If you want to save the difference, run two plans: a standard one for boxes of kitchenware, tools, toys and appliances, and an air-conditioned one for the furniture, books and clothes. The crew separates them on collection day and the catalogue shows each item's section. Two Small plans, one of each, often cost less than one air-conditioned Medium and protect exactly what needs protecting.

Put against the replacement cost of a leather sofa or a year of a child's school books, the difference is small, which is why we default to air-conditioned when a customer is unsure and a whole home is involved.

Preparing things for a humid climate, whichever section

Everything goes in clean and dry. Fabric that is damp on collection day is damp on the shelf; wash, dry fully, and fold.
Do not seal soft things in plastic. Bin liners and cling film trap the moisture that is already inside. Use the breathable covers and cartons the crew brings.
Leather gets a wipe and a light conditioner; shoes get stuffed with paper and stored in cloth bags, not boxes that crush them.
Wood is wiped dry, never oiled just before storage. Drawers are emptied and left closed.
Electronics travel in their boxes where you have them, with batteries removed from remotes and tools; a silica sachet in each box helps.
Appliances are defrosted, drained and dried with the door taped ajar so the inside does not go stale.
Books stand upright or lie flat, never on their spines; a layer of paper between framed art and the next item.

What air-conditioned storage is not

It is not cold storage. Food, wine kept at cellar temperature, medicine, plants and anything alive or perishable are refused under the same rule as everything else we will not store: anything illegal, dangerous, perishable or alive. It is also not a clean room or a vault; it is a shelved, monitored section of a working facility, kept at a temperature that suits people and possessions equally.

Do I need it for a two-week renovation?

No. Two weeks in a standard section harms nothing. Choose it for anything past a month, or for leather, paper and instruments regardless of length.

Is the price difference worth it?

About a quarter more: 1,452,000 VND against 1,158,000 VND for Small. For a whole home with wooden furniture and a sofa, yes. For boxes of kitchenware and a bike, no, and we will say so.

Can I store some items in each?

Yes. Two plans, one of each section, separated by the crew on collection day and shown per item in the catalogue.

Can I switch a plan from standard to air-conditioned later?

Yes. Items move between sections inside the facility and the plan reprices from the next term.
