Storage for teachers over the summer break

The school year ends in June, the flight home is booked, and the flat is either being paid for while empty or handed back with the contents in a pile. This is the page for the teacher who wants the summer to cost a storage plan rather than two months of rent, and who wants everything back in the new flat the week before term.

The summer, briefly

Collection in the last week of term, return in the week before the new one. Both are booked on the form up to ninety days ahead.
A one-bedroom teacher's flat is usually a Medium plan, 24 boxes, 2,450,000 VND a month; the 3-month term takes 5% off.
Districts 2 and 7, where most schools and most teachers are, are in the free zone. Thủ Đức adds 150,000 VND to the collection, once.
The portal works from any country. Every item has a photograph; a colleague in the city can be given access to receive a delivery.

Why the summer is the moment

Teaching in Ho Chi Minh City runs on a calendar that most landlords do not share. Contracts are for the school year; flights home are for the whole break; leases are for twelve months and roll on. So every June some teachers pay for a flat they will not see until August, some hand it back and lose the deposit on a rushed clear-out, and some are between contracts, with a new flat that does not start until the week before term and a pile of belongings that has to exist somewhere in between. In each case the numbers point the same way. Two months of rent on a furnished flat in Thảo Điền or Phú Mỹ Hưng is a multiple of a summer of storage, and a plan can be booked, paid, watched and closed from another country.

A furnished flat where the landlord owns the bed and the sofa comes to twelve to twenty box equivalents, a Small if you have lived light and a Medium of 24 boxes if you have been here a few years. An unfurnished flat with your own bed, sofa and wardrobe is a Large, 48 boxes at 4,900,000 VND a month. Two teachers sharing come to a Medium or a Large between them, with one plan and two logins.

The calendar

Ninety days before the end of term, book the collection for the last days you are in the flat. The form takes the date; the crew confirms the slot. Book the return at the same time if you know the new address, or later from the portal if you do not.
The week before collection, wash and dry everything fabric, defrost the fridge if it is yours, and put the things that fly with you in one corner. The crew packs the rest.
Collection day: the crew photographs and codes every item, and the catalogue appears in the portal that day. Check it on the plane.
Over the summer: nothing to do. If a colleague needs something from the flat, invite them to the plan with the orderer role and they can request a delivery to themselves.
A week before term, request the return from the portal, 2 days ahead for the standard fee, to the new flat. The plan closes when the last item is out, or stays open for the box of winter things you do not need in September.

Schools, districts and the free zone

Most of the city's international schools and most of their teachers are in District 2, Thảo Điền and An Phú, or in District 7, Phú Mỹ Hưng, and both districts are in the free zone: a collection in Districts 1 to 5, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan and Go Vap carries no trip fee. Teachers at the schools in Thủ Đức and the eastern side, or living in Nhà Bè south of District 7, are outside it and pay 150,000 VND once, on the collection. Our nearest facilities are in District 2 on Võ Nguyên Giáp and District 7 on Trần Trọng Cung, though with valet storage you never need to visit; the crew comes to the flat and back.

From another country

The plan does not need you in Vietnam. The portal shows every item with its photograph, the invoice is paid by card, and delivery requests go in from anywhere. Teachers who are not sure they are coming back use this: the plan runs month to month, and if the answer in August is a new job in another country, the portal handles the ending. Items can be delivered to a friend who will sell them, or a disposal request made for what is not worth shipping, one item at a time, without a flight back to sort it out. If the answer is another year, the return is booked to the new flat and the summer cost the price of a plan.

Leaving for good

The summer plan also solves the leaving problem for teachers at the end of a contract. The flat has to be handed back on a date; the things you are shipping, selling and giving away move at different speeds; and the leaving sale never clears everything before the flight. Frequently asked

When should I book for a June collection?

As early as the form allows, ninety days ahead; the last two weeks of June fill first. Standard notice is 2 days, sooner carries the 400,000 VND rush fee.

Can the return go to a different flat?

Yes, to any address in the city. Give the new address when you request the return from the portal.

Can a colleague collect something for me over the summer?

Invite them to the plan with the orderer role. They can request a delivery of the items you choose to their address.

What does a summer usually cost?

A Medium plan for three months at 5% off, plus collection and return for a Medium at 8,900,000 VND paid once. Set that against two months of rent.

Do I have to be there for collection?

You or somebody you trust with the keys. The crew photographs everything, and the catalogue in the portal is your record.
