Fridge and washing machine storage in Ho Chi Minh City

Appliances survive storage if two things are true: they went in dry, and they stayed upright. Most of the ones that do not switch on afterwards were stored wet, laid down in a truck, or plugged in an hour after arriving.

Key facts

Fridge or freezer: switch off 48 hours before collection, defrost, dry inside, door propped open with a cloth. The crew collects it upright and it stays upright.
Washing machine: run an empty hot cycle, drain hose and filter, leave the door open a day, refit the transit bolts if you have them.
Air-conditioners must be removed and gas-recovered by a technician before collection; the crew does not detach fixed units.
One fridge and one washing machine count as about 6 to 8 box-equivalents together; alone they fit a Small plan at 1,158,000 VND a month, standard climate is fine.

Why 48 hours and why upright

A fridge defrosted for a few hours still has water in the drain channel and the insulation edges; sealed in a truck it becomes the mould you smell six months later. Two days with the door open dries it. Upright matters because compressor oil migrates into the refrigerant lines when a fridge lies on its side; plug it in too soon and the compressor pumps oil. Hence the second rule: after delivery, leave it standing 24 hours before switching on.

Climate for appliances

Standard storage is enough. A clean, dry appliance with the door open does not need air-conditioning. Choose air-conditioned if the same plan holds electronics or wooden furniture that does; the whole plan takes one climate. On a Small plan the difference is 1,452,000 VND against 1,158,000 VND a month.

Collection and delivery

Book from the account with the appliance list; mention stairs without a lift, and the crew plans for it.
The crew disconnects washing machines and dishwashers at the taps. Gas ovens and air-conditioners must already be disconnected by a technician.
Each appliance is photographed, including the serial plate, before wrapping.
Delivery places the appliance where you want it; reconnecting to water and power is yours or a technician's.
Fridge: stand 24 hours, then switch on empty for a few hours before loading.

Frequently asked

Can you defrost the fridge for me on the day?

No; it needs two days. A fridge collected wet is noted in the photos and stored as-is at your risk.

Can a fridge go in the truck lying down?

Not in ours. Fridges and washing machines travel and are stored upright.

What about the gas bottle for the cooker?

Gas canisters are refused. Return the bottle to the supplier.

Do you store air-conditioners?

Yes, once a technician has removed them and recovered the refrigerant. Units still on the wall are not collected.

Do small appliances count?

A kettle, rice cooker, blender or fan goes in a box like anything else. Fans are wrapped whole.
