Restaurant furniture: store it or sell it
When a restaurant closes to be refitted, the first question is always the furniture. Selling it off hurts, keeping it means finding somewhere to put it. The calculation is short, and it turns on one thing: are you coming back.

The short answer
- Refitting and reopening with the same concept: storing almost always wins.
- Changing concept entirely: sell, because the old furniture will not suit the new room.
- Giving up the lease with no plan yet: store for a few months and decide later.
- Furniture already worn and wobbling: sell. Do not pay rent on something you will bin.
The calculation
Selling restaurant furniture second-hand almost always lands far below what it cost. Buyers of clearance stock know you need the space emptied quickly, and the price reflects exactly that. Then when you reopen you buy again at new prices.
Storage you can work out in advance. A Large plan is 48 boxes at 4,900,000 VND a month in standard storage. Furniture takes room but it stacks, so the box equivalent is lower than people expect. Add the one-off collection and return fee.
| Size | Boxes | Roughly | Valet / month | Self storage / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 12 | a studio, seasonal things | 1,250,000 VND / 1,550,000 VND | 1,550,000 VND / 1,950,000 VND |
| Medium | 24 | a one-bedroom home | 2,450,000 VND / 3,050,000 VND | 3,050,000 VND / 3,800,000 VND |
| Large | 48 | a two to three bedroom home | 4,900,000 VND / 6,150,000 VND | 6,150,000 VND / 7,700,000 VND |
| Size | Collection only | Collection and return |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 3,300,000 VND | 5,100,000 VND |
| Medium | 6,000,000 VND | 8,900,000 VND |
| Large | 11,300,000 VND | 16,600,000 VND |
Divide that total by the months of building work, then compare it against the gap between clearance price and replacement price. For furniture in good condition and a refit of a few months, the sum rarely favours selling.

How restaurant furniture is packed
- Table tops come off the pedestals and stack, padded between each so nothing scuffs.
- Pedestals are bundled per set, with the fixings bagged per set rather than all together.
- Chairs stack to whatever depth that chair design actually takes.
- Upholstered seating is wrapped so it neither draws damp nor collects dust.
- Real timber belongs in air-conditioned storage, because wood moves with humidity, not temperature.
When selling is the right call
If the new concept is genuinely different, the old furniture will not work in the new room, and storage fees are money spent on something you will sell next year for less than you would get today. Sell now.
The same holds for furniture that is already worn, with loose joints and chipped surfaces. Storage does not restore anything. Paying to keep something you will throw out in six months has no case behind it.
What most places actually do: split it
You do not have to pick one answer for everything. Most of the places we work with split the decision: keep the expensive pieces that suit the concept, clear the rest. A photographed catalogue makes this easier, because you can see exactly what you are holding before you decide.

Frequently asked
How many boxes does furniture come to?
It depends on the design. Dismantled table tops and stacking chairs come to far less than assembled pieces. We quote the box count in writing before we collect.
Will upholstered seating go mouldy over a long store?
Not in air-conditioned storage holding 23 to 25°C. Upholstery is wrapped before it goes on the shelf.
Can we store some and sell the rest?
Yes, and most do. We only take away what you are keeping; what you are selling you handle on site.
What if we decide to sell something while it is in storage?
Look at the photographed catalogue in your account, pick the items, and book a delivery to wherever the buyer is collecting.
Store it, get it back when you need it
We come to you, pack, photograph every item and keep it on a secure shelf, standard or air-conditioned. One message brings any of it back.
