Store it or sell it

The place is closing and within a fortnight you have to decide what happens to everything in it. A buyer walks the room once and names one number for the lot. That number is always low, because that is the business they are in. This page does not tell you to refuse it. It gives you the arithmetic, and a third option if you still intend to open again.

The short answer

Selling makes sense when you are certain you will not reopen, or when the kit is old enough that buying new beats keeping it.
Storing makes sense when you mean to open again within a year or two, when you are waiting on a better site, or when this is a pause rather than an ending.
The sum: monthly storage times the months you expect to be closed, plus collection, against what the buyer offers plus what replacing the same kit would cost.
Standard storage is 1,250,000 / 2,450,000 / 4,900,000 VND a month for Small, Medium and Large. Collection from 3,300,000 VND, including the van, the crew, boxes and wrapping.
It is not all or nothing. Most owners sell the bulky things and keep the expensive ones and the ones carrying the brand.

The sum, written down

Fill in three numbers of your own. We do not know what a buyer will offer you, and anyone who quotes you that figure without seeing your place is guessing.

A, what the buyer offers for the lot. Get at least two quotes; the spread between buyers is usually wider than people expect.
B, what it would cost to buy the same things again when you reopen. Go and price an espresso machine, a chiller, tables and chairs like the ones you have.
C, the cost of keeping it: monthly storage times the months you expect to be closed, plus collection from 3,300,000 VND, plus the delivery back when you reopen.
Compare. If B minus A is larger than C, keeping is cheaper than selling. If it is smaller, selling is cheaper. If you are certain you will not reopen, B is zero and selling is simply right.

A small cafe usually fits a Medium once the bulky things are gone, which is 2,450,000 VND a month standard. Six months is 2,450,000 × 6 less the 10% on a six-month term, plus collection at 6,000,000 VND. Put that next to the price of one espresso machine and one chiller.

What survives storage and what does not

How clearing day runs

You book online: size, section, the address, whether it is a shopfront or down a lane, whether there is a lift.
Before the date you sell or give away whatever you have decided to let go, and clear all food.
The crew arrives in your slot, takes down shelving and counters, wraps furniture, boxes the small things, photographs every item, codes it and loads.
Within a day your account shows the full catalogue with photographs. That is also the evidence you want if anything is still disputed with a landlord or a partner.
When you reopen, book a delivery to the new address. Need a few pieces back early for photographs or a tasting? Request them individually at 100,000 VND each.

If you sell anyway

That may well be the right call, and we are not going to argue you out of it. Three pieces of advice that cost nothing. Photograph everything before the buyer arrives, because afterwards you have no record of what was ever in the room. Separate anything carrying your brand, the signage, the menus, the pieces made to your design, because they fetch almost nothing and cannot be bought back. And do not sign the premises back to the landlord before the equipment is out, because at that point you no longer hold the keys.

Frequently asked

I have not decided yet. Can I store it while I think?

Yes. The shortest term is one month. Book one, decide inside it, then either book another term or ask for the delivery back.

Will the crew dismantle a bar counter and wall shelving?

Yes, ordinary dismantling is included in the collection fee. Anything needing a trade, cutting into walls, disconnecting plumbing or removing air-conditioning units, is booked separately or arranged if you ask.

Can I store some of it and sell the rest?

Yes, and that is what most owners do. You pay for the size you actually store once the bulky items are gone.

Do you invoice a company?

Yes, VAT invoices in the company name with tax code and address, carrying your PO number if you use them.

Can fridges and freezers be stored?

Yes. Defrost and drain them at least 48 hours before collection and leave the door ajar. The crew tapes the door open and bags the hoses.
