The short answer

A month or two of a whole home while you are between leases: valet storage, both-ways collection.
Things you need to reach every week, or stock you pick from: self storage in a unit you visit, or a valet plan with the item-by-item portal if visits are rare.
A move with a gap of a few days between homes: the mover's own holding, if your mover offers it; longer than a week, a storage plan.

Self storage, honestly

A self storage unit is a room with your padlock on it. Its advantage is immediacy: you can go on a Sunday, open the door and take the drill. Its cost is your labour. Everything has to be carried in, stacked by you, and carried out, and the unit is priced on floor area, so an unpacked jumble costs the same as a tidy stack. In Ho Chi Minh City the facilities are on the edges of the centre, because that is where the floor space is, which turns "I will just pop in" into a forty-minute trip each way. We offer it through partner facilities at 1,458,000 VND a month for Small, standard, and it is the right choice for stock that turns over, for tools, and for people who simply prefer to see their things.

Valet storage, honestly

Valet storage inverts the labour. The crew comes to your door, packs what you have not packed, photographs and labels every item, and drives it to a shelved, climate-controlled facility with CCTV, code and fingerprint entry and professional pest control. From then on you manage it from your phone: the catalogue shows each item with its photo, and any of them can be sent back on their own for a delivery fee. The weak point is the one you would expect: nothing is instant. The earliest a single item arrives is the next day, and you do not stand in front of the shelf yourself. For a whole home stored for months, or for anyone without a truck, a back or a Sunday to spare, it is the cheaper and easier option, and the storage itself is priced below self storage because shelved, catalogued space is used more efficiently than a locked room.

The mover's warehouse

Movers in the city routinely hold a load overnight or over a weekend when the new home is not ready. Some will hold for a week or two. It is convenient because it is one contract and one crew, and it is fine for a short gap. It is not storage: the load stays packed as it was loaded, nothing is catalogued, the space is a truck or a warehouse floor without climate control, and if you need a single box back you are asking a favour rather than placing an order. Past about a week, or for anything sensitive to heat and damp, move the load into a storage plan instead. Luggage storage

For bags, not homes. Hotels hold luggage for guests on the day of checkout; luggage counters and some cafés near the backpacker streets take bags by the day for cash. It works for the eight hours between a checkout and a flight. It does not work for a month away, for anything valuable, or for boxes, and there is no inventory and no protection if a bag goes missing. Keeping the apartment

People do this more than they admit: a trip of three months abroad, a lease that is easier to keep than to end, and the furniture stays put while rent is paid on an empty home. Put the numbers next to each other. A one-bedroom in a central district costs its rent plus utilities every month. Its contents in a Medium plan cost 2,006,000 VND standard or 2,516,000 VND air-conditioned, plus a one-off collection and return. For any absence longer than the notice period on the lease, ending the lease and storing wins by a wide margin, and you come back to a catalogued home rather than a dusty one.

Frequently asked

Is valet storage more expensive than self storage?

The storage is cheaper: Small valet is 1,158,000 VND a month against 1,458,000 VND for Small self storage. Valet adds a one-off collection fee from 1,093,000 VND, which pays for the crew, the packing materials and the transport.

Can I see my things in valet storage?

Every item is photographed and shown in your account, and a visit to the facility can be arranged by appointment. The daily reality is that people check the photos rather than travel.

Can I switch from self storage to valet later?

Yes. The crew collects from the unit, catalogues everything, and the plan carries on under valet pricing.

Does a mover hold things for a month?

Some will, but it is not what their space is for. For anything beyond a week, or anything sensitive to heat, use a storage plan and have the collection double as the move out.

What about a friend's spare room?

Free until it is not. No inventory, no protection, and a friendship that now has a wardrobe in it. Fine for a suitcase; a poor idea for a home.
