Storage paperwork in Vietnam

Less than you fear. A private person storing household things needs an ID and an account. A foreigner needs a passport. A company needs a tax code for the invoice. The complications start only when the goods are stock for sale, and even then the questions come from the operator, not from the state.

Key facts

Private household storage: no business registration, no notarised contract, no residence paperwork. Valid ID, and for foreigners a passport, is enough.
The booking on tumay.vn/order together with the service terms is the contract. A printed, signed and stamped copy is available for companies that need one.
Stock for sale: the operator may ask what the goods are and, for large lots, for purchase documents, to keep counterfeit and smuggled goods out of the building. That is the operator protecting itself, not a state procedure.
Companies: enter the company name, tax code and invoice address in the account; a VAT invoice is issued each month and downloaded from the account.

Private individuals

Storing your things is buying a service, like laundry or parking. No authority requires you to register anything. The operator needs to know who you are so that your things go back to you and nobody else, which is why your name and ID number are recorded and why you accept the service terms when booking. At collection and at delivery the crew checks ID against the account.

Foreigners

A passport is enough. No temporary residence card, no work permit, no Vietnamese phone number; the account works with any email or number.
Pay by bank transfer, one invoice a month. Manage everything from abroad.
Delivery is only to the account holder or to a person you add to the account as authorised, who shows ID. Add your friend or colleague before the delivery day, not on it.
Leaving the country does not affect the contract; it runs for the term you booked, and you book another before it ends.

Does the contract need notarising

No. A storage contract, whether for a unit or for valet service, is a service contract, not a transfer or a registered long-term property lease, so it is not in the class of contracts that must be notarised. Two parties can choose to notarise a very large or very long agreement; that is an option, not a condition.

Goods for sale

You do not need a business registration to rent storage. If you run a business, that has its own rules, independent of where you keep stock. What the operator cares about is that goods in its building are lawful: of known origin, not prohibited, not dangerous. So it may ask what the goods are and, for large lots, for an invoice or import document. It is protecting itself against counterfeit and smuggled goods on its shelves, not applying a procedure to you.

Companies and VAT invoices

Create the account with the company name, tax code (MST) and invoice address.
Book as an individual would. A VAT invoice is issued each month and downloaded from the account; a PO reference can be added.
Add staff with roles: Owner, Admin, Ordering, View only. Finance sees invoices and the CSV ledger without being able to move stock.
Pay by transfer from the company account and reconcile by invoice number.

ID at delivery

Items are released only to the account holder or to an authorised person named in the account, against ID matching the registered name. This is the most important clause in any storage contract and the reason ID is recorded at the start. Without authorisation the crew will not release items to someone who has the key, knows the order code or says they are your relative.

I am on a tourist visa. Can I store things?

Yes. A passport is enough; the visa type does not matter to the contract.

Do I need a paper contract signed by hand?

No. The online booking with the service terms is the contract. Companies that need a signed and stamped copy can ask for one.

I sell a little online. Will I be asked for documents?

For clothing, homeware and accessories in modest quantities, a description at booking is usually all. Large lots or sensitive categories are asked for documents.

Can a VAT invoice be issued to an individual?

Yes, in your name. A company supplies its tax code so the invoice is deductible.

Can my landlord or building manager collect on my behalf?

Only if you add them as an authorised person in the account before the delivery day.
