Why "free" costs more than it looks

Saigon's humidity averages 75 to 80 percent and passes 90 on wet-season days. A spare room without air-conditioning and without anyone opening the wardrobe is where leather goes white, books ripple and the sofa picks up a smell that does not wash out. Add a curious child, a cat, and the fact that no one photographed anything on the way in, and the free option has a real price. It is just paid at the end instead of the start.

Choosing by how long

A few days: a hotel or a short-term luggage service. Monthly storage is the wrong tool.
Two weeks to two months: valet Small, standard climate if nothing in the pile is wood, leather, paper or electronic; air-conditioned otherwise.
Three months to a year: valet, billed by the month. Air-conditioned for a whole home.
Ongoing, with weekly visits: a self storage unit.

Choosing by what it is

Furniture, appliances, a whole apartment: valet, because the crew dismantles, wraps, carries and reassembles.
Documents and archives: valet, because every box is coded and one box can be recalled without touching the rest.
Stock for an online shop reached daily: a unit. Slow stock and seasonal lines: valet with SKU notes and par levels.
